“basically hannah the pop star is getting way too cocky for a secret identity so her dad (i wish billy ray cyrus would shave his chin) takes her home to tennessee to remind her her real name is miley stewart (well it’s really miley cyrus but you know what i mean).”

– Excerpt from the NYT’s review of the Hannah Montana movie. This sort of gimmick seems more like a floundering publication grasping at straws than any kind of worthwhile put-down of the movie, but I’m willing to laugh at this sort of thing the first couple times it’s tried. Not all NYT left-field reviews can be A.O. Scott’s flawless deconstruction of Freddy Got Fingered.
