Amidst several lesser successes, this summer’s greatest victory was the advent of the Brass Yuppie.
Our local Overpriced Brooklyn Organic-Type Market inexplicably sells cans of San Pellegrino lemonade and orange spritzers for a dollar apiece— well under the usual price. Over breakfast one morning it was decided that we would throw them into 40’s, and it was with predictably awesome results that a legend was born. We christened it the Brass Yuppie, and that was that. I stand by my original preference for the lemonade flavor, but the less sour-oriented among us favor the orange. Both are completely serviceable.
It wasn’t that warm out today, though, and I got to wondering about a cold-weather analogue to the BY. I feel like root beer is wintry, underboozed and also available in classy enough varieties to keep up the yuppie leitmotif, but I’m also considering pulling a 180 and experimenting with the weird Mexican drinks (apple soda, nonalcoholic sangria soda) that you never see anyone buy.
I could probably also just drink hot toddies or spiced cider like a normal person, but I already get the feeling that we’re talking pure spectacle over actual taste on this one. I’m open to suggestions.
